Last Friday night Joel and I went to see the Jack Johnson concert at Sandstone amphitheater! We had a blast, and here is a very condensed and somewhat jumbled version of how our night went. So...we bought our tickets back in March, as soon as they went on sale, because we wanted to be sure to get the best tickets possible. We later found out that the first 5,000 people through the gates at the concert would get a wristband to go down to the front of the stage in the pit. We were so pumped, and decided to go for it! We called Sandstone to ask what time the parking lot opened and what time the gates opened because we decided we wanted to be the first ones there ( i know, a little extreme, and maybe a little stalkerish) but we were really really excited about this concert. so, we find out that the parking lot opens at 3, and the gates open at 5. keep in mind, jack doesn't actually start playing until 9 (there were two bands playing before him that started at 7) also, once you park, you are not allowed to leave the venue. so, we made a quick pit stop at wendy's, got some food and drinks, and proceeded to the parking lot. we parked our car at 3:08, and were very surprised to see that there were already at least 200 people in line! bummer. well, we walked around for awhile, went and looked at the tshirts, and then we sat down to eat our dinner. somehow we made friends with these people at the front of the line, and then before we knew it we were 2nd in line! woohoo! we were so excited. the next part of the story is hilarious and a little embarrassing actually...so, they opened the gates at 5:15, but no one was sure where exactly we had to go to get the wristbands to get down to the front. So, it was definitely a stampede of elephants running into the amphitheater frantically trying to find the wristbands! I think the people that worked there planned this so they could laugh at all of us! it was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I almost wanted to stop running so i could video everyone else running around, but i couldn't stop because we were at the front of the stampede! we ended up being pretty much the first people to find the wristband table and they tried to tell us we couldn't get one b/c we already had really good tickets! we talked them into giving them to us though so our 2 hour wait and dead sprint to the table wasn't all for nothing! it was definitely a memory and an experience of a lifetime. The concert was amazing and we had so much fun laughing about our entire night...oh ya, we even had to scale a 10 foot fence after the concert to get out the parking lot and i got caught on the top and ripped the back of my jeans, and then we sat in our car in our parking spot for over and hour before we even moved because the traffic was so bad! overall, it was the best date night ever, i know we are a little crazy, but it was sooo worth it! jack johnson sounds amazing on his cds, and he is even more amazing live, we can't wait to see him again.
